Targeting traffic for your website is as easy as knowing how to simply direct traffic to your website rather than another one. The information web surfers are looking for is usually available on hundreds if not thousands of websites, so you have to make sure you are extremely diligent about keeping your website high in the search engine rankings. There are several ways you can do this which include links, keywords, and pay per click advertising.

#1 – Get Links

Getting other web pages to link to your website is very important and something you should focus on heavily. There are software programs you can install that will help you with this, but there is nothing like the personal touch. So, do some research and find the top sites that you are interested in having a link to your website. Then, contact them personally noting the good qualities of their website and how you believe a link from them would help your business and vice versa. If you are willing to link as well, then the other sites will likely respond positively. This is the best way to go and you certainly you will gain more links and higher rankings in the search engines.

#2 – Include Keywords

Make sure you do some research regarding the main keywords that pertain to your website. Then, include these words in your content, especially in titles and in the beginnings of paragraphs. Search engines rely heavily on keywords, so make sure you have your page optimized for specific keywords so you will get returned high in the rankings. You can easily do a search for your keywords and see where you rank and also find out if your rankings need work. However, one thing you should definitely not do is try and trick the search engines with invisible keywords as this could get you blacklisted. This is the worst case scenario, but it happens frequently to people who try to trick the search engines. Don’t let this happen to you and simply find out what search engines look for and then optimize your page accordingly.

#3 – Pay per Click Advertising

Pay per click advertising is another way for you to generate traffic to your website and you only have to pay when someone clicks on your advertisiment. The way this works is you bid on specific keywords so that when these keywords are searched for, your ad shows up on the web page along with the search results. The higher you bid on ad placement, the higher your ad is displayed. Generally, no more than 10 ads are displayed on a page and you’ll want to be within the top four ads for optimal exposure.

These three tools are great ways for you to increase your traffic as well as target the visitors that you want to come to your website. By implementing these suggestions in your marketing plan you will quickly realize more sales.

Wow, have you ever wondered if there’s some way to really get good traffic to your site? If you’re like me, that can seem like a herculean task. You build that first web site and you find that you’re getting 10 to 20 site visits a day, most of which is robots searching your site, not real traffic from potential buyers.

How do you get a web site to attract 2,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 visitors a day. That’s the subject of search engine optimization. You want your site to have the attributes and information that the search engines are looking for to rank you high in their search results.

Getting your site to the first page of search results can be done, but you’ve got to use tools and techniques designed to do that. There’s tremendous competition out there, as anyone who’s ever tried to create a web site knows. How would you like to find a tool that gets you a first page search listing. Here is one tool that does the trick: http://seo.5×1.net

Using this tool for Search Engine optimization, sites have been listed on Google page one for these keywords, as examples:
– lose weight
– weight loss
– how to lose weight.
The competition is in the millions of other sites for those keywords. Now wouldn’t you like to have a tool that really works for your keywords and your web site?

As one user of this tool said “I’ve been using it for a few months now and it’s become one of my ‘must use’ applications for planning the search marketing efforts for all of my sites. Previously I had used a combination of other products that did ‘half the job’, manual search and the popular technique of ‘wishful thinking’. If you want to predict results rather than hope for them, people need this product.”

You have to decide if you need and want to improve the flow of traffic to your web site. Having the right tool can make all the difference. That’s true for carpenters, it’s true for auto mechanics, and it’s true for anyone trying to build a web site that brings in the traffic. Good targeted traffic can be your source for revenues that put a smile on your face.

The author writes on a variety of topics related to web site construction, management and revenue optimization. See http://seo.5×1.net for more information.

If you own a business online, would like to increase
targeted traffic to your site but simply don’t have any free
time, hiring someone to submit your URL to niche directories
may be what the Dr. ordered.

I hope the following interview with Tim Mathews who owns
http://timmathews.com a Directory Submission Service helps.

Before we get started Tim tell us a little about yourself.

I am an avid web designer at heart. I have been in the
computer industry for about 10 years – back when AOL 2 was
the bomb, and if you didn’t have a 14.4 modem, you were
cruising slow. (Wow, how times have changed). I really enjoy
taking the mom and pop 100 product site and building it into
a powerhouse ecommerce site. I love building sites, then
getting them listed in the search engines and directories,
and watching the sales roll in for the client.

How did you get started in directory submission services?

I first stumbled into Directory submission services when I
was trying to get a companies site listed in the search
engines. I was trying and trying to get it listed, but no
use. After numerous reworking, I finally got the site
listed. I was then thinking… Huh, this was tough for me,
and I am a pro! I was wondering if others were having
issues, and alas, THEY WERE! From then, business has spawned
from current local clients to all the seven seas!

For those new to the internet could you explain what a
directory
submission service is?

A Directory Submission Service, in my opinion, is a company
that will submit your website to directories. Now, the
client must be careful when selecting a company. Many I have
seen say something along the lines of “We submit you to over
800,000 Search Engines and Directories”. This statement
alone lets me know that they are not trustworthy. We can all
fire up ANY free/shareware submitter and boast the same
statement. What I LIKE to see, when checking my competition,
is a listing of directories they will submit to. And, of
course, no one can guarantee inclusion.

What was your motivation for offering directory submission
service?

Well, to be blunt, I was thinking this could make us some
money. I was thinking of my stumbling in the submissions,
and how long and hard I worked to get sites listed. I
learned what to do, and definitely what NOT to do. I figured
it would be a great service.

What problems did you have to overcome to start your
directory
submission service?

Our main problems are the sites that boast hundreds of
thousands of submissions to directories… This confuses the
client to thinking there are this number of “separate”
directories. After explanation that there are far less, (We
submit to as few as 20 directories up to around 200 for some
clients), so you can see why this would be a problem.

How did you overcome these problems?

We overcame the issues by explanation of the services that
the “other guys” provide, and most importantly, we overcame
the problem with RESULTS. We do what we say, and get it
done.

What impact can using a directory submission service have
on
ones online business?

Directory submissions can make the business, LITERALLY.
Submitting to search engines is fine, and SHOULD be done.
Submitting to directories is definitely a necessity.

What kind of gains can one expect to make by using a
directory
submission service?

Once Directory listings take, you can expect to probably
double your traffic. Double traffic could mean double
sales/leads.

What could the downfall be of using a directory submission
service?

Well, un kept promises. Many “other guys” make big promises,
but deliver seldom few or none altogether. Do your research.
How long has the site been in business? Do a “who is” look
up and see when they bought the domain name just to be
certain.

Can you give 3 tips on successfully submitting to
directories such as DMOZ for example?

With Pleasure!

Tip 1.) MOST IMPORTANT
Proper Category Selection is KEY
You MUST submit to the applicable category. This is the most
overlooked, because we think we have a site selling Sports
Blankets, like http://www.blanketmall.com/tim and they
wanted to be listed into the “sports category” After
research, I decided it be best that they be submitted into
the Shopping: Sports: Theme Merchandise category.
If I would have submitted the site into the root of sports,
I can GUARANTEE it would have not been accepted.

Tip 2.) Wait.
Do NOT submit your site to ODP (dmoz.org) again in a month.
Give it 2 months to see results. If after 2 months, you are
not listed, rethink your submission, drill down to a deeper,
more relevant category, and resubmit.

Tip 3.) Do not hound the guides.
I have seen people talking about “direct relationships with
guides for category “****” They say to email the guide and
bug them. We disagree with this. If your site is properly
submitted, you will not have a problem. We have clients that
tried this tactic, and have never been listed. We submitted
them, and got them listed.

Thank you for the opportunity to give my feedback in this.
It has really been a pleasure. Thanks!

I’m often asked how you can drive highly target traffic to your website, without paying for it. Can this be done? My answer is always “Of course…Forums”. Forums are a type of message board, where users can post their ideas, views or questions.

Let’s use the example of a Golf Forum. If you run a website about golf, or are promoting golf products, simply join a Golf Forum. Users log in and post all sorts of questions and comments related to golf. Topics may include gold discussions, products, players etc. Now a great way to get these people to see your website, is to add a signature to your comments. This can be done by setting this up in your profile under your account. Everytime you make a post your signature will read something along the lines of “More Golf Tips Here”. When users click the link they will be directed to your site. There you have it. Genuine golf fans visiting your site.

The secret is not to write posts about your website. This is not allowed on forums, and is considered SPAM. Simply provide useful information and friendly advice, and you will build up a reputation on the forum. If people like what you’ve written they will naturally click your link.

Most people recognize two steps in the viral distribution process. Create the product, let others pass the offer along for me. This is the theory behind viral product offers, but the key ingredient is the middle step. Getting the word out so that people can find it, to distribute it for you. This step is often overlooked when planning a viral product distribution system.

Assuming you have already got your report written and formatted into a distributable package and a landing web page that visitors can retrieve your report from let’s look over the “Jump Start Check List” so we can get your report out to the people!

If you have seen other product offers you probably realize how important it is that you provide an digital cover for your product. This gives your information a “tangible” feel. A well designed cover can increase the download and re-offer response rate by 70% !

Step 1:

Create a box cover art graphic.

Make it in 3 sizes. Large, med. and thumbnail.

Save it in 3 formats. – .jpg gif and bmp if possible.

These two steps will save you time in the long run.

Next thing we want to do is get our small ads written. Let’s write these ads all at once and save them into our favorite clipboard or text management utility software program.

Step 2:

Write your ads.

Consider target markets and create different headlines/ads as appropriate.

Write several ads.

Set up a simple strategy for tracking those headlines.

If you need a brief refresher on classified ad structure here are some guidelines. If you feel you need more instruction doing a search will bring up many helpful opinions on classified ad writing.

Classified Structure

Strong headline
Benefit or solutions
Call to action
Provide action contact or link

After you start your campaign you are going to receive many confirmation emails and link requests, so lets take a look at how we can manage these tasks without going nuts.

Step 3:

Be Prepared.

Create a “friends of” or “resource” page – Some directories will require a link back

*tip* Never call a link page a “links page”

Create a separate email address just for your viral offer

Create email rules to help you manage the incoming replies into a specific folder

The following 10 minute “set up” will save you hundreds of hours of your valuable time. Open your clipboard utility, if you haven’t decided on one yet, please do. Your clipboard utility and/or form filler will quickly become your best friend. Having a workable system will save you from burnout, tiredness and frustration. I have used WinM8 and RoboForm for many years and have little advise on what programs are on the market today – these two programs do everything I need them to and do not hog up my computer resources.

Step 4:

Getting Set Up

Common Information to Place in clipboard segments
Name
Email
Title of report
Download url
Link to eBook cover
Description
Url to your back-links page

Step 5:

Get the word out.

Anywhere you can advertise on the web is a potential for advertising your landing page. This includes directories, exchanges, using Google Adwords and more.

Look into web sites that are closely related to the theme of your report. Notify webmasters of these closely related sites of your offer, and be sure to let them know how offering your report can benefit their visitors. Is there any benefit to the webmaster that you can promote as well?

An example of this could be .. You create a eBook on “How to Store Your Precious Silver”. A jewelry dealer offering silver rings may be very happy to offer your eBook to their visitors, and the visitors will thank the webmaster for the helpful information. Another vendor may sell “How to Clean Antique Silver” your free report would make a nice bonus offer that will benefit both vender and consumer – by being an added value offer.

Many people and webmasters search eBook directories for information and value added products on a regular basis. It can pay off big to make sure your eBook is listed in eBook directories and resource pages of related web sites.

One surefire way to get your offer some attention is to write an article on your topic and add your landing page to your author bio box.

Ask for reviews from your favorite, topic related forum boards or discussion lists. This can be a great way to get feedback on the quality of your report too.

This system has worked for me. You can let my research save you time by using my free resource directory located at http://www.masteradvertising.com. This ad free listing directory is full of free places to advertise and was formed out of need to collect resources that I advertise my eBooks and websites on.

Good luck, I hope to see your next free eBooks or report everywhere!

The debate rages on forums all over the internet-should one buy text links to improve traffic?

Here we’ll dicuss some of the aspcets of buying links.

First, many link text brokerage sites sell links from a network of websites that may or may not have relevance to your own website. The problem here is one would be trading value for quantity. If a link is of no interest to visitors of these network of sites then the traffic from these sites will be very low.

The only value of the link would be to boost page rank. But whether these links will boost page rank is debateable at best. Many SEO experts believe that a link that is not relevant to the page from which the link is on is penalized by Google.

Still there are those who question this reasoning simply because Google bombing still works, as does blogspam. The topic is very debateable. Many claim that google can’t differentiate between a link that is paid for and one that is not. Logically this is correct, but Google can spider the contents of a page, and if the links on that page are of no relevance to the rest of the content the spider knows.

Of course there is no direct evidence that Google will penalize your link if it is on a page that has no relevance to your link. It is merely speculation. But as I said, even though the spider doesn’t know if you paid for the link or not, they are made to spider content. This thought should cause you to proceed with caution when and if you choose to buy links.

Always evaluate your intent when buying links. Is it just to boost pagerank, or will the link also be of benefit to the visitors of the page the link will be placed on. Both are important to the level of traffic the link could bring.

So the intelligent conclusion would seem to be to buy links from individual websites related to the topic you want to rank for. The evidence seems to suggest that this is more benefical to both readers of that website and from an SEO perspective.

Everybody wants more traffic, and not just any old traffic – targeted traffic. Streams of prequalified visitors who are genuinely interested in your website and product are every smart webmaster’s dream.

If you’re mainly interested in your hit counter, you can sign up with any old autosurf program and you’ll soon be happy. However, if quality counts for you, then here are 5 methods of getting genuine, interested and ready to buy visitors to your site:

1. Testimonials.
2. Writing Articles.
3. Forums.
4. Press Releases.
5. Your Newsletter.

Testimonials
Sometimes it really is better to give than receive. Internet marketers are always on the lookout for testimonials – it lends them credibility. The next time you use a product or service that you genuinely like send the supplier a testimonial. Include a link to your website and, if they use your testimonial, they will almost certainly include the link – so that their customers can verify that you’re a real person.

Depending on the product and the type of website that you have, you could even host a review on your site. You would be highly likely to get a link using this method. You will get traffic using this method and, since the supplier of the product is likely to be promoting his site quite extensively, you could get a very high quality back link – which will help your search engine rankings as well.

Only endorse products that you are genuinely happy with. Remember, your name will be associated with it, so make sure it’s a good one.

Writing Articles
This is a great way to promote both yourself and your site. All you have to do is submit articles on your chosen topic to one or more of the free article banks available and content hungry webmasters will use your work on their sites and in their newsletters. It’s amazing how quickly these can be distributed around the internet.

Put a link to your site in your signature file, along with a few words of explanation on the content and purpose of your site. The visitors that you get in this manner have already read your work and know about your site – so they are highly targeted.

Three of the best article banks on the net are listed below – but just type “free articles” into google and you’ll soon find plenty more places to submit your purple prose.

http://ezinearticles.com/
http://www.isnare.com/
http://www.goarticles.com/

Don’t worry if you don’t consider yourself to be a great writer. You can submit a list of 10 or 20 things to do in order to ……. whatever.

Forums
These can be a really good way to get your name in front of people. Put your website’s URL in your signature – you’ll be surprised at how many visitors you attract by this method. The good thing is that, as with the articles, they already “know” you from your posts – so you can consider them to be “targeted” visitors.

Press Releases
Press releases can be an amazingly powerful way to market your website. You can pay for these but it is possible to get them for free.

Don’t worry that you know what to say – a couple of paragraphs is all that’s required. Visit the site below and have a look at some of the live releases available – you’ll soon get the hang of it.

http://www.prleap.com

Prleap is free and has good statistical reporting so you can keep track of how many views your release gets and which of the search engine robots have indexed it.

Your Newsletter or Ezine
You should have your own opt-in list and be in communication with your subscribers on a regular basis. Some webmasters send out a full e-mail newsletter, with the contents in the newsletter. Others just send a notification that the newsletter is available to read online.

Whichever method you use, make sure that your newsletter contains plenty links to your main site.

All of the above methods will provide you with very high quality traffic. It may take time to implement them but it’s well worth investing a little time and effort.

Becoming part of an online advertising network is a pretty
powerful and cost effective way to drive traffic to your website.
Internet marketing publications or discussions rarely mention an
online advertising network as a means of marketing for the
purpose of driving traffic to websites.

It is an internet marketing method that is frequently overlooked,
but the concept of an online advertising network is certainly
something worth exploring if you want to make the most of your
marketing budget while adding a touch of efficiency to your
marketing campaign. As with any type of internet marketing, there
are advantages and disadvantages of marketing your website
through an online advertising network.

An online advertising network is a company or group of people who
sells advertising, such as banner ads and pop-under ads, for a
great number of websites. An online advertising network may be
for a specific category or type of websites, or it may network
with a variety of different types of websites where, as an
advertiser through the online advertising network, your ads will
be seen. For instance, FastClick.com (now owned by ValueClick,
Inc.) is an online advertising network that has the potential of
reaching a great number of internet users with advertisements.

The sites at which FastClick advertisements appear are not
specific in regard to categories or types of websites.
HispanoClick.com is an example of a category-specific online
advertising network because it is an online advertising network
that is focused on serving publishers from the United States,
Spain and Latin America who use the Spanish language in their
advertising or on their websites.

With an online advertising network, you generally buy advertising
in bulk, either with thousands or even millions of impressions
each month which provides your advertisements with maximum
exposure for a relatively low cost which is a definite advantage
of advertising through an online advertising network.

A disadvantage of advertising through an online advertising
network is that the impressions you pay for may not necessarily
be appearing for the benefit of a targeted market, so placing
advertisements through an online advertising network may not be
as effective as more targeted methods of advertising.

This is because in most cases an online advertising network is
not specialized or geared to a narrow target market. However,
some category specific online advertising networks may be.

Thus, choosing the right online advertising network for your
business becomes a crucial factor in whether or not your business
will benefit from participation in an online advertising network.
If your products or services are pretty general and appealing to
wide target market than advertising through a non-category
specific online advertising network may be for you.

However, if your products or services are appealing primarily to
a niche market, advertising through an online advertising network
may be a waste of your time and money unless you find an online
advertising network that actually targets your niche market. Such
online advertising networks are actually pretty rare.

If you choose to advertise through an online advertising network,
find out where your ads will be appearing and determine whether
or not the reach of the online advertising network will actually
be beneficial to your company. Some online advertising networks
are hesitant to release information about the sites on which your
advertisements will run because of confidentiality agreements
with the websites that are members in their network.

As an advertiser, you may have a problem with that. I know I do.
I am not comfortable spending big bucks on advertising through an
online advertising network if I cannot know exactly where my ads
are appearing and view them to ensure that the program offered by
an online advertising network isn’t a scam.

There are legitimate online advertising networks so you need to
exercise due process to ensure that the online advertising
network you choose actually produces results.

The answer to this question is not an easy one in many respects, but mainly It’s almost impossible for one answer to be correct for every circumstance.

I began my venture into cyber space with absolutely no computer knowledge what-so-ever. Not only was I computer illiterate I didn’t know the InterNet from a fishing Net.

One of the very first things I learned was that the Internet can be a very lonely and impersonal world. Sitting alone in front of a computer screen hour after hour day after day and keeping your focus is not an easy task.

My first suggestion is to establish contacts with like minded people as soon as you can. Not only will this help keep you from feeling isolated it will allow you and they to take advantage of each others experiences and expertise.

I’m not saying bring others into your business, but networking has been a part of good business practices since the beginning of time. It just makes good business sense to take advantage of all the resources that are available.

How is this going to help me get traffic to my website you ask! Well, in a number of ways. Some of these networking pals will have websites that compliment yours, trade links. The more LEGITIMATE ( I say legitimate, because there are those that aren’t) links you have to your site the better.

Links help in a number of ways, they push traffic from the linking site to yours, and they garner you higher rankings on some search directories.

I am a firm believer in links. I have written on the subject a number of times. I’ll relate A good example of why I’m so link happy!.

We have a small obscure resource site sitting all alone in the middle of one of our domains. The page itself was just a 5 minute project to fill a hole we needed filled about 2 years ago.

To make a long story short, because of links to other sites that 1 page sees 3 to 4 hundred visitors a day every day, day in and day out. The traffic count increases by 30% every month. A New York radio station picked up the URL for that page and has it featured on their website. That’s why I’m link happy.

The first thing you need is accurate tracking of your traffic. A site counter is not tracking your site visitors. Until you have a valid tracking method to track where your traffic is coming from where it’s going, how long its staying, what time it arrived, what time it left, how many of your pages did they visit, what key words brought them to your site, what search engine sent them, what other site sent them ( from your links! remember) your wasting your time promoting.

Until you have the system in place to track all of the above and more, all the site promotion in the world won’t help. And why is that you say? Very simply put, you have no earthly idea what’s working and what’s not!

“Your Success Is Our Success”

If you have been focusing on new and unique visitors alone, then you’ve been missing out on a big opportunity to boost the volume of traffic that would pass through your website. There is only so much new traffic you could win, and once you have saturated your targeted market with your website’s presence, then the number of people who would visit your web pages would surely slow down.

This would be a travesty. Traffic, as we all know, is the lifeblood of any online business. Whether you’re running an Internet shop or an AdSense-imbued content site, your earnings will always, always be dependent on the number of visitors who get to see what you have to offer.

The key to a sustainable… let me repeat that… not just terrific, but SUSTAINABLE, traffic is in ensuring that your visitors would visit your website again. Doing this would guarantee a constant influx of users who would get to view our web pages. If we have new offers to show, past visitors who may not have been interested with our previous products might be interested with our current ones.

For AdSense or other PPC purposes, a steady supply of visitors would mean a consistent level of Click Through Rate (CTR). For our affiliate links, sustainable traffic would mean a higher likelihood of being able to pre-sell the affiliate program’s goods.

So how do we guarantee repeat visitors for our websites?

Here are seven fabulous ways that could help us in our plight.

Content is king. The Internet is called the information superhighway for a reason. Its processes are fueled by its users’ need for information. If your website would be able to provide for them a rich source of this information, then they would always refer to you whenever a similar need arises. Your site’s content, hence, should be of high quality and should thoroughly discuss the subject it is devoted to.

Guarantee of updates. Informing your visitors that your website is committed in collating all the knowledge relevant to a subject would entice them to visit your web pages regularly. They would expect new information that your website would share, so make sure that you update your content regularly.

Capture leads. Many Internet marketers consider a mailing list as the key to online success. By capturing your visitors’ email addresses, you could inform them of any updates or of any new offer you have, with corresponding links to the exact page. This would assure you that your visitors would always remember your website.

Use a really catchy domain name. The sale of domain names has become an industry of its own. This is because of the simple fact that some domain names are just more valuable than others. The most expensive? The ones which are very easy to remember, of course. So try to devise a really catchy domain name, one which your visitors won’t easily forget, and check its availability as soon as you could. Soon, they’d merely type your URL instead of you having to rely on the search engines for the bulk of your traffic.

Offer rewards or other incentives. You could offer some freebies for download which your visitors can avail of. Add a promise that new and better freebies will be offered regularly and you’ll have a faithful flock of visitors in no time.

Brew some excitement. Sponsor some contests, or encourage user interaction. Soon enough, they’ll be looking forward to visit your site everyday!

Build a community. Online communities, usually in the form of forums, are hot commodities these days since they would not only guarantee repeat visitors, rather, repeat visitors who would return to your website many time in a single day! Forums can easily become the hangout for people with similar interests, a place where they would feel they belong to. Use this to your advantage!

With the ways we have discussed, you’re sure to arouse the interest of your visitors and make them come back for future visits. This would most definitely mean a stable volume of traffic for your website for many years to come!
